Although it is a tree that grows large, the growth of Ichii (Japanese yew) is very slow, and its characteristic and charm lies in its clearly and finely appearing annual rings. It is said that trees with older growth tend to have more beautiful wood grain and texture, and our Ichii also has very fine and beautiful grain.
Immediately after milling, it has a bright, almost orange color, but it gradually changes to a brownish hue. Also, due to its name "Ichii" (which can mean "first place" or "number one"), it is often used as a gift for good luck or as a charm.
Its round form is irresistibly tactile, fitting snugly in the hand.
The beautiful grain of the natural wood finish, the blonde luster, and the balanced round form create such harmony that it's mesmerizing just to look at.
The process of applying a plane from the narrow entrance and curving the inside is a skilled artisan's technique. This is a rare shape not commonly found elsewhere.

Our lathe-turned products are unique items, handcrafted with care by a single wood turner who is dedicated to working with wood through every step of the process, from selecting the wood to cutting, drying, final turning, and polishing. We are committed to a finishing technique that involves polishing the raw wood to bring out its luster, without applying any paint or varnish. This allows you to fully appreciate the beauty of the wood grain, as well as its feel and warmth. Please note that due to this raw wood finish, the product may slightly expand or contract depending on the season, climate, and environment in which it is used, which could affect the fit of the lid. Also, please be aware that the color tone may vary depending on the shooting conditions and your device's screen.
[Care Instructions]
- Occasionally wipe with a soft cloth. The cloth provided with the product at the time of delivery can also be used. It is also good to gently rub the entire product with your hands each time you use it.
- If it gets wet, wipe it dry immediately. (Excluding products with a wiped lacquer finish)
- Do not place in direct sunlight or in high-temperature, high-humidity locations.

Our products originated from my predecessor's search for raw timber. He searched for wood with landowners in Nagano Prefecture and neighboring prefectures, and personally felled the trees. There were many years when enough premium wood to fill several trucks was prepared, but over time, large, old trees became scarce. Even buying from the market has become quite expensive, so we carefully produce products from the raw timber left by my predecessor. I am grateful for such precious wood, and I feel a mission to bring out its beauty to the fullest. Woodcraft may seem simple and understated at first glance, but I believe it is a job that conveys the evidence of how many decades or hundreds of years a tree has lived. By carefully curing the raw timber for decades, the wood is allowed to acclimate to the seasons, and I determine the timing for production with my own hands. Perhaps only those who have handled wood for many years can hear its voice.
